Introducing You to Andrew Scoular

Sensitive Skin Clinic founder Andrew ScoularI am the owner of Blue Turtle Spa, an award winning spa in San Francisco, California.

We were voted Best of the Bay by the San Francisco Bay Guardian newspaper 4 years in a row. We have many positive reviews posted on Yelp and many more happy clients.

I myself have sensitive, aging skin. It is also sun damaged due to a youth that was spent on the beaches of South Africa.

I have not had Botox, Fillers, Laser resurfacing, nor surgery (except to remove a big chunk of melanoma on my face). Not that I don’t believe that these treatments are effective. They are. They are just not cruelty free.

After qualifying as a licensed esthetician in California, I embarked on extensive study of cosmetic ingredients and chemistry as well as skin physiology. I felt that it is impossible to provide meaningful skin care advice and treatments unless I understood how the chemistry of the skin and chemistry of products can be balanced. Intelligent skin care products and skin care treatments are essential elements in helping people take better care of their skin and rebuild it’s natural strength.

Firstly we need to understand that everything on this planet (and in life) is a chemical except light and electricity. There are bad chemicals in nature as well as man made ones. It is important to seek out the good chemicals and avoid the bad stuff.

My goal is to help my clients achieve healthy and balanced skin – skin that operates well in it’s own comfort zone and therefore will inevitably fix itself.

Many skin care products marketed today, can easily unbalance the skin because of their ingredients. That is why I focus my attention on the ingredients in skin care products. This is the reason why I formulated my own product line ‘Sensitive Skin Clinic’ to effectively deal with sensitive skin.

My plant based products are cruelty free and contain no animal products. I will NEVER agree to testing products on animals. Animal testing is absolutely inhumane and immoral. 3 websites you can go to in order to lend your support to stop animal suffering in test labs and universities in the USA and around the world are are pcrm.org, idausa.org and peta.org

My previous career was in the world of Hi Tech, having worked for companies like Apple Computer, Bell Canada, Siemens, and for many years as an independent consultant. This background has influenced my approach to skin care. Logical, scientific and physiology-based skin care is the most effective way to take care of the skin.

My goal is to intelligently strengthen and balance your sensitive skin and, ultimately give you the means to look as youthful and radiant as possible.  Please contact us with any questions or comments—we’d love to hear from you.

Your skin stays with you for the rest of your life, you cannot buy a new one, so treat it properly. Treat it sensitively.

Sensitive Skin Clinic is intelligent skin care that you and your skin deserve.

Andrew’s Intelligent Skin Care Philosophy

I am not about quick fixes.

I am not in favour of fads.

I am not in favour of vanity over painful, inhumane animal testing.

I do not dumb down what I say.

I do not insult your intelligence with limited facts nor great seductive messages.

Once we understand how the skin works, it is a matter of matching the chemistry of your skin with the chemistry of products. That is how real results can be achieved….and realistic expectations set.

Physiologically, the skin is a barrier. It is designed to keep things out. It does not absorb everything you put on it, but it can be easily irritated by what you put on it.

Medically there are few skin-applied solutions that require direct absorption into the blood stream. However, swallowing pills is still one of the most effective ways to get controlled levels of medications into the body. Seeing as the skin is a barrier, it’s barrier function has to be stopped in order for medications to be allowed to enter. Stopping the barrier function often leads to more skin sensitivity.

Your skin does react to everything you eat. Good healthy, organic fruit and vegetables are good for the skin (and your whole body). Putting organic food into your body is more important than what you smear on the skin. Junk food, fast food, processed food is bad for the skin.

5 reasons you won’t like Andrew Scoular

My approach to skin care is not suited to you if:

1.  You prefer marketing seduction from large skin care companies to that of scientific reason from Andrew.

2.  You prefer 15 second sound-bites to hearing all the facts.

3.  You want a quick-fix and will not commit to spending time on your skin.

4.  You would rather spend time on replaceable items like smart phones/computers/shoes/clothing than taking care of the only skin you will ever have.

5.  You freak out over the use of the word chemical (even though everything on this planet is made up of chemicals except light and electricity).

I will not dumb down my skincare beliefs into an easy 1-2-3 product solution because sensitive skin needs intelligent solutions in order to nurse it back to a healthy, balanced, and less sensitive state.

Low maintenance is equivalent to no maintenance.

1 or 2 products alone will not make your skin strong even if they satisfy your ‘low maintenance’ desire.

A stronger skin is a happier skin.

A happier skin is a happier you.

But it is totally OK if you don’t like me….nor what I say.

Your skin stays with you for the rest of your life, you cannot buy a new one, so treat it properly. Treat it sensitively.
